Original brass Werth-Marke of the Hafen Hotel in Swakopmund, German South West Africa.
The Hafen Hotel was a commercial establishment in the important German colonial port of Swakopmund. The token bears “WERTH-MARKE 300 HAFEN HOTEL SWAKOPMUND” on one side and a large “300” on the reverse. The 300 Pfennig denomination represented 3 Mark. Brass, approximately 33 mm.
Catalogue: Peter Menzel 24729.5 / Opalka Swakopmund 6.1 / Leipner MT 7024.6. The 300 Pfennig was the highest denomination in the known Hafen Hotel series of 10, 25, 50, 75, 150 and 300 Pfennig. A rare and historically interesting example of private commercial token currency from German South West Africa, reflecting the commercial life of Swakopmund during the German colonial period.
