About us

Our history

Haller Treasure Chest is a family business driven by a deep passion for antiques, African art and the history of the German colonial era.

Our family originates from Germany and has lived in Namibia in South-western Africa since 1896, spanning four generations. Peter Haller, our father, began collecting and selling antiques in the late 1940s. His fascination with African Art truly began during our family's round-the-world caravan trip between 1971 and 1976, which included six transformative months traveling through more than 40 African countries, from Germany to Namibia.

The African art and antiques business officially opened its doors for the first time on 1 November 1983, when Peter Haller founded Peter's Antiques in Swakopmund, Namibia. The business grew from the first day one.

Being gromed for many years, then in 2006, Ludwig Haller - Peter Haller's second son - and his wife Mirana (originally from Madagascar) took over the business after almost 22 years.

In August 2022, we moved to Lausanne, Switzerland, and in 2024 we created Haller Treasure Chest, an online shop designed to serve collectors, historians and lovers of African art and items related to the colonial era. All items offered are stored in Lausanne, Switzerland, to facilitate accessibility and shorten delivery times for posted packages of our European and international customers.

We are looking forward hearing from you. Now feel free to browse our website and select your favorite pieces today.

Yours,

Ludwig and Mirana Haller
