Token 25 – German Kingdom of Württemberg – Military Uniform Button with Crowned “W” Cypher, c. 1890–1918
Original German military uniform button bearing the crowned “W” cypher of King Wilhelm II of Württemberg.
The crowned “W” identifies the button with the Kingdom of Württemberg, one of the German states within the German Empire. The cypher was used on Württemberg military uniforms and associated equipment during the reign of Wilhelm II (1891–1918).
The button is probably made of brass or tombac, with an integral shank on the reverse. It shows substantial dark patina and wear, while the crowned “W” remains clearly visible in relief.
An interesting original example of late 19th- to early 20th-century Württemberg military uniform insignia, reflecting the military traditions of the Kingdom of Württemberg before the end of the German Empire in 1918.
