Original brass company token of the Consolidated Diamond Mines of South West Africa Ltd. (C.D.M.), associated with the diamond-mining industry of South West Africa.
The token bears “C.D.M.” on one side and “2/-” on the other, representing 2 shillings. The design is surrounded by a ring of dots on both sides. Brass, approximately 27–28 mm in diameter.
The Consolidated Diamond Mines of South West Africa was formed in 1920, when the major diamond-mining interests in the territory were consolidated, following the discovery and development of the Lüderitz-area diamond fields. The company subsequently became one of the major diamond-mining enterprises in South West Africa.
Catalogue: The 2/- token is recorded as part of a known C.D.M. series from Lüderitz, together with the 1/- and 2/6 denominations, and is dated by specialist collectors to approximately 1920–1930.
