Original brass Biermarke (beer token) issued by Heinrich Post, General Dealer, Outjo, in German South West Africa.

The obverse is clearly inscribed “HEINRICH POST OUTJO”, while the reverse features a distinctive stylised beer mug, immediately identifying its purpose as a beer token. Measuring approximately 20.2–20.5 mm in diameter, this compact brass piece is an attractive and highly collectible example of private commercial token currency from the German colonial period.

Heinrich Post operated as a General Dealer in Outjo, an important settlement and trading centre in the north-central part of German South West Africa. Biermarken such as this were used in connection with the serving or redemption of beer and offer a fascinating glimpse into the everyday commercial and social life of the colony.
